I was born in Bristol, England on 4th December 1963 and attended high school until the age of 16. I left to join the aerospace industry as a technician apprentice and upon graduation I moved into I.C.T, later joining General Electric as a systems programmer. I continued to work in the I.C.T industry until July 2006, thereafter leaving to pursue other interests. I currently work in local government as a housing advisor.

I married Chemin in 1987, our daughter Nadia was born in 1998, and the three of us live in Redland, Bristol.

Working for GE afforded us many opportunities to visit the United States on business and vacation, including California, Florida, New England, New York State and Seattle, as well as the east and west coasts of Canada. We have also travelled extensively in Europe, and have been to Thailand.

I have always had a passion for 70’s & 80’s rock. Between 1989 & 1992 I played in various semi-pro bar bands as lead guitarist and vocalist whilst the day job paid the bills. Although having no time for gigging these days, I still own a classic series 60’s Stratocaster, and my favourite bands include Yes, Genesis, Toto and Rush.

I began writing in 2001 and this was all down to Chemin really. We were on vacation in the South of France. One evening we were discussing plans for the future and I jokingly said that I ought to write a novel. From then on her persistence started me thinking about a plot and the foundations for Ascension were laid. I started to put some words down when we arrived home and the first draught of the book was completed in September 2002. By the end of 2003 Alumni was completed. After a long period of editing and revising both books, Ascension was finally released in June 2007 and Alumni in April 2008.

The inspiration behind Ascension comes from various sources. New England was the ideal setting from memories of my visits there. The basis of the story lies in the inescapable fact that we can often be the product of the events of our childhood - good or bad. Many are victims of injustices or they carry scars from their forming years, and some people just can’t let secrets lie. Couple this with memories and impressions from childhood & teen years that needed exorcising in the form of a novel, you have what I hope is a book of substance as well as a suspense thriller with an original take. Originally entitled Afterimage, Alumni’s central theme of euthanasia is a thought provoking and emotive subject. To what extremes will individuals go to pursue a cause or an ideology? That’s where Alumni takes you, the reader. As Mike Fabien would say “a Logan’s run of the twentieth century.”

Both Ascension and Alumni were evolving novels right from the start. In both cases, the original concepts transformed as each chapter was written and I can honestly say that the final draft of each book is a far cry from the original synopsis. As the plots and characters developed I got a real buzz from the spontaneity and the sudden realisation of a new idea.
The writing of Anathema however, has been a lot more structured, and the original plot has been for the most part adhered to throughout the course of the book.

I have met many readers at signing events in the UK and I would like to offer my sincere thanks to you and to those who have purchased copies of the books, for your support and kind feedback. It has been very encouraging to hear your comments on how much you’ve enjoyed Ascension and Alumni.

Three years in the making, Anathema, my third book is now available. It aptly concludes the Mike Fabien trilogy with a plot that sees the age-old struggle between science and religion played out in a sinister endgame in an isolated town in Northern Maine, where the fate of three sisters lies in the hands of a local priest who believes that he has divine backing, so I do hope you enjoy this one too, and please continue to send me your feedback and put reviews on Amazon.
